So it has been a long time since I've waited at a premiere - I am trying to remember what the last one was - Run Fatboy Run? I did show up at Star Trek but that was after it had started and I'm talking about those premiere's where I've wanted to get a good spot at the barrier. It is exhausting to do because it takes all day for something that ultimately lasts about an hour/hour and a half. Couldn't resist Scott Pilgrim because of epic fandom cross over of all things Superman and all things Frost/Pegg/Wright. I knew Brandon Routh was attending and to see him is a rare opportunity. So I got to Leceister Square at lunchtime complete with Superman and Hot Fuzz photos for signing just in case. And waited...
Man the waiting is tedious. I got talking to others who turned up - some who attend every premiere to get the autograph of anyone they can. (I guess I have specific obsessions - can't see the appeal of it). And I have to thank the big Chris Evans fan - a very cool lady who came all the way from York and snapped a rather awesome photo for me...that is coming up. Things I learnt whilst waiting (1) one guy was one of many fans cast as a zombie in Shaun Of The Dead (2) Michael Cera fans at least 3 of the 4 I met were a tad scary. Really they were probably harmless and just a litle over excited but ... ! (3) At least 3 people (one of whom was wearing a Superman t-shirt) near me had no idea that evil ex 3 in the Scott Pilgrim movie was being played by the same actor who played Clark Kent/Superman - this became apparent when someone asked me why I had a Superman photo with me *face palm* I tried my best not to scowl at the ignorance of this question, especially when it was followed by the question - How did I know he played Superman? LOL! Erm, what?! The actors name is a big clue!
So once the premiere got started I snapped away with the camera and shouted a heck of a lot for Brandon Routh. I was opposite the press pen where he spent a lot of time giving interviews. In the meantime lots of awesome UK comedy talent - only a few of them did I spot - not everyone came near the crowd. Once Brandon talked to the press he came back to the crowd but missed the section I was in by inches. This was a shame, but I am lucky - I already have his autograph and I did get a wave and some photos. So the highlight of the premiere was finally getting Edgar Wright's autograph, and thank to the Chris Evans fan mentioned earlier, a photo with Simon Pegg. Epic win. Sadly Chris Evans turned up late and missed much of the crowd for signing :( I felt bad for the fan I was with. She took it in good spirits and seemed to have fun anyway. I hope so :)
Here's the photos (sorry they are very Brandon Routh, Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg heavy!)
^ Some of the Wright family, Oscar and Edgar's mum I recognised :)
^ Matt Berry. If missy_manic had been with me I may have been deafened by screams at this point ;)
^ Matt Berry. If you've never seen Snuff Box or Darkplace, you really should.
^ Brandon arrives and gets signing.
^ Edgar arrives.
^ Brandon is so tall its easy not to lose him ;)
^ Jason Schwartzman aka Gideon Graves.
^ Look in the background - Joe Cornish :) He hosted a great Q&A with Edgar the night before :)
^ Brie Larson
^ Michael Cera, easily spotted in that red top.
^ Brandon smiles with his wife Courtney Ford.
^ Yes Brandon, people are screaming at you to get over to the barrier with the fans :P He did wave :)
^ Michael Cera has gone to specsavers... and so have me and Simon later.... :P Big it up for the people wearing glasses...er....so more photos:
^ Kieran Culkin. Macaulay Culkin was also in attendance but got whisked into the cinema and appeared not be allowed or at least wasn't encouraged to sign autographs despite a lot of screams for him.
^ Yep, Brandon still giving interviews.
^ Anna Kendrick
^ Edgar takes a bow at his own premiere. So he should :)
^ So here is Pegg working his way towards the section of the line I am in. At this point I actually swore to myself because I had no idea whether to shout for Simon or shout for Brandon who was on the opposite side still giving interviews to the press. In the end I opted to continue to shout for Brandon because I was pretty confident that Simon wasn't going to miss anyone out because he's nice like that... and guess what he didn't because I was about to get the highlight of the event...
^ Is this is a Simon/Kate aka Shaun/Liz of Shaun of the Dead reunion? missy_manic thinks it is, and I think she is right. :)
^ Pretty sure that is Katie Pegg on the right patiently waiting for her brother Simon to finish going along the crowd. If Simon's tweets are to believed she has got him watching Being Human which is awesome taste :)
and drumroll please......
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D x 1000000000 This photo will never fail to make me :D :D :D :D :D :D
And then Brandon finally came back to the crowd and I missed him by INCHES.
^ I think someone asked Brandon to sign their shoe?!
^ Pegg talked to the crowd and joked he has only just realised Edgar didn't put him in the movie.
^ Sadly, this is as close as I got this time. If there are any Brandon fans reading, I have photos from Superman Returns UK premiere if interested - just comment.
^ And then it got awesome again because Edgar signed a Hot Fuzz photo for me :D :D :D
^ Brandon talks to the the crowd. I wish I could remember what he said. I do remember him talking about Edgar because I cheered at it LOL (something about great to get the opportunity to work with him or something)
^ That is Edgar's amazing hair, and Brandon talking to the crowd.
^ Brandon inside the cinema.
