Short plays

Saw a quartet of short plays with missy_manic at the Southwark Playhouse which is a great venue underneath London Bridge (you can hear the trains go by above you in the theatre!). Saw:

The Experiment
Written and performed by Mark Ravenhill
Directed by Anthony Banks

Psychogeography
by Lucy Kirkwood
Directed by Adam Meggido

Twisted
by Anthony Neilson
Directed by Hannah Eidinow

Some White Chick
by Neil LaBute
Directed by Jason Lawson

My two favs were Some White Chick (this is a shocking play but not for the sake of being shocking - makes you think about violence as entertainment and how desensitised people can become. Uncomfortable to watch) and I loved the performance of The Experiment and the writing itself - I cannot find much about it online but I would totally read more of the playwrights work :)

short plays
i'm glad you enjoyed my short play "some white chick." hope it was a fun performance and i'm very happy you saw the themes behind it, not just the sensational side of it. i'm jealous as i haven't been able to see the evening of plays yet myself.

the other play you mention, "the experiment," is by a very talented playwright (and the performer you saw) named mark ravenhill. most of his written work is available and very exciting to read--i hope you explore it in the near future.

thanks for spending a night out at the theater!

Re: short plays
Oh I hope you get to see it soon! I don't know if this was something was recommended in the play or a decision made by the director but Some White Chick is the last of the play performances and because of its subject matter and the events that take place there is no curtain call which I thought was a wise decision and somehow forced you to take in what you had just seen for longer than you might have done in the comfort of applauding a performance before leaving the theatre.

I saw Fat Pig during the West End run also and enjoyed that play too :)
