Well today was a crap day made awesome at the end thanks to Kevin Spacey and company in Inherit The Wind @ The Old Vic theatre. BRILLIANT. I am going to focus on this, not the crap stuff now that I am off to bed.

I had high expectations of this. I mean look at the cast - George Clooney, Ewan McGregor, Jeff Bridges and Kevin Spacey. What's not to like? I enjoyed it a lot, and it is funny but I can't say I busted a gut. Clooney is the star of this. And yay for a return to comedy for him! Jeff Bridges really made me laugh with his LET THE DANCE OUT! and I really enjoyed the tension between Clooney and Spacey's characters. Also the many Star Wars references and with McGregor in the cast made it funnier :)

Last weekend, went home to see the parents for first time in ages. It was nice and I made them watch my latest blu-ray buy - The Damned United with the amazing morph-like ability that is Michael Sheen. They liked it. Also watched again Recount. This is a great great movie - a favourite of mine of Kevin Spacey's in a while. The whole cast are great and there's a lot of big names in it. Watch this movie. It makes politics interesting and if you don't care about the issues in this movie, I don't think I want to know you. That is all.
Oh, except Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead are now available on blu-ray :D :D These will most likely be my next purchases. I feel there should be a blu-ray party for these. Will see how the Star Trek one goes next month... :)

Tonight I have officially finished watching every single episode of Star Trek TOS. So much fun. Looking forward to meet up tomorrow @ bfi for Star Trek: The Motion Picture - then I will have also completed viewing all Star Trek movies (original cast).
And damn you Edgar Wright, if anyone could sell me horror (I'm not really a big fan) it's probably Wright and his enthusiasm for it. Stop planning Prince Charles Cinema screenings on days I cannot make :( (Ok so I made it to Grindhouse, but was gutted to miss Hot Fuzz).
Oh, and the reviews for Inherit the Wind at the Old Vic are mostly positive - I cannot wait :D Hurry up November. I've missed seeing Spacey on stage.

Oh I laughed loudly, this looks great. Loving the casting also :)
So Sunday I went to BBC to see filming of an episode of Miranda - new BBC sitcom comedy starring Miranda Hart. You may have seen her in Not Going Out or Hyperdrive, or the radio if your a radio listener. Really good fun. Sally Phillips is in the cast playing Miranda's annoying posh sister. :) Hope it does well when it airs as I like Hart a lot. The warm up audience guy on this was also hilarious.
crapguitarist thank you for reminding me that Inherit The Wind tickets for the Old Vic were already on sale. I am so slacking :( I decided to take my mum who has never seen Spacey perform on stage before and will be going in November. The closest I could get seats to the stage is row J :( Its not just shallow reasons I want this, the closer I am the more I can lip read. However I've a feeling this play will involve lots of shouting so I should be fine ;) *excited* Can't wait to see Spacey again on stage - seems ages. Also
swankyfunk informs me that Jessica Hynes is back on stage in London - that is very tempting also.
Myself and
missy_manic are nearly finished with watching Star Trek TOS Season 2. Just watched the episode Bread and Circuses (do I like those grey tshirts on Kirk, Spock and McCoy? Heck yes.) One more ep to go!
Comics - just finished reading part 1 of Superman For Tomorrow. Absolutely brilliant writing and story art. I will comment more on this another time, plus I need to buy part 2 and finish it.
And the other big news... Rachel's got a job in Glasgow! This is great for her - what she has been aiming to do for since Spring so I am thrilled for her. But it means I will lose a good friend as a great flatmate, so will be flatmate hunting come October. We shall be having a massive 30th birthday/send off for her early October - should be fun :D
And tomorrow I am going with
missy_manic and Rach to Brighton for the weekend. Believe it or not. I have never been - this will be my first visit!

I had quite high expectations for this movie. And it met them. Sam Rockwell you are a brilliant actor. I think this is his best performance since Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind. It's a different kind of performance but it is what grips you to this film. Kevin Spacey is the voice of the computer, Sam's only company on the spaceship. To say anymore would spoil the plot but if like me you love Solaris or Sunshine, you should love this. It is not a blockbuster by any means. Clint Mansell's soundtrack has some lovely piano melodies that really added to a sense of isolation in space to this movie. Will be buying this on DVD. Oh, and I assumed knowing Matt 'Todd Rivers' Berry was in this that he would be a voice but he does actually appear on camera.

Yay! Is it autumn already? Kevin Spacey set to perform on stage in the play Inherit the Wind @ the Old Vic.
*goes off to investigate* apparently it was also made into a film with Spencer Tracey? Anyone seen it?

The interview in GQ magazine with Pegg is good. It has some nice insights:
and quoting Jessica Hynes...
( GQ photos )
Plus Empire's 20th Anniversary edition has an awful lot of man talent with some lovely photos I had to share...
( Frost, Pegg, Sheen, Spacey, Wright )
Enjoy! I had nothing better to do today.
'Then 30 years later the guy who made it [Indiana Jones Raiders Of The Lost Ark] is phoning me while I'm back at my mum's - Spielberg's voice is in our living room! It was lovely. I felt good because my mum could hear it.'
and quoting Jessica Hynes...
'Simon's enthusiastic response to my comedic skills was a standout occurrence in my life. Not since my mother saw me in a primary school production of The Emperor's New Clothes had I been so openly and consistently championed by someone. It was the mark of someone with a generous heart who truly wanted those around him to succeed.'

Finally got round to watching 21 which I bought on blu-ray earlier this year. Quite enjoyed it, bit slow at times but enjoyable even if it was predictable. Nice ensemble cast. ( Don't read the cut if you want plot spoilers )
And of course the 11th Doctor revealed! Actor Matt Smith - so they actually have cast a relative unknown. I like this actually. I hate change, but its all part of the Who story so I say good luck to him.

Of course Who Fandom has been on fire - seems to be a very mixed reaction. This is my favourite. *giggle*

And what about us fangirls? Also, I want that X-Men jersey. Glad to see Sam 'Jimmy Olson' Hutington is in it :) The road trip aspect and the subject matter is making me thing of Nick Frost and Simon Pegg's Paul.... what we know of it so far at least.

stolen from
norton_daily. I can has Norton-centric Hulk poster please? Is this official? or fan made? Never saw one over here:

Also,
swankyfunk alerted me to the fact that Norton's playing two characters in his next movie yay!, and this poster pretty much establishes that:

And Norton aside, how fab a cast is this:
George Clooney, Kevin Spacey - awesome! but there's more... AND Ewan McGregor and Jeff Bridges are all in The Men Who Stare At Goats. Plot details here.

Had a lovely day off work today. I basically slept and shopped :)
Stuff I bought:
Clothes - 1 top, 2 flannel shirts (always makes me think of farm boy Clark Kent) :P
Books - spent ages in WHSmith deciding which 3 books I'd get from 3 for 2 deal - *every single book valid* - so took a while. Ended up with:
Superman: Red Son - graphic novel.
Somewhere in Heaven - unofficial biography of Christopher and Dana Reeve just published (hate that title but hey, never judge a book by its cover/title)
Wall E Mega Models - so much fun - make 3D movie characters. Here's my result:

^ hours of fun making these.
I also went into Toy City, big mistake because I saw the first Wall E toys - I really wanted one but resisted. And then I saw The Incredible Hulk with Ed Norton style Bruce Banner. Really wanted that too. But it was double the price of other action toys grr!
swankyfunk if your reading - I know you wanted Norton related merchandise, this one was from Hasbro toys though I can't see it on the site :( Feeling good about resisting spending my money on action figures I walked out the shop but then passed the bargain bin and spotted a Lex Luthor Superman Returns action figure. Had to get that to add to my collection. Bargain at half price :)
I also did my favourite thing of chilling out at a coffee shop with a dose of caffeine and a book - made a start on The Incredible Hulk movie novel.

Happy Birthday to my mum! Had a lovely meal at an Italian restaurant in Bledlow Ridge for lunch. I especially loved the sardines starter I ate. Haven't had sardines in years, they taste better than I remember.
Doctor Who - tonight's 'Turn Left' was awesome. Donna Noble haters will be eating their words I hope. Loved how Russell T. linked events across all the series! Sometimes I wonder if he's just showing off ;) Great writer. Can't wait for next week's episode :D
Oh and all the Edward Norton related posting made me forget to mention: Spacey's filming a new movie with Robin Williams yay! It's called Shrink and Kevin's playing, er, a shrink.
ohnotheydidnt has on set photos here. Hello stubble :) Loving the suit also.
The Ed Norton related posts will be continuing btw. I went on an impulse DVD buy on Thursday and bought some of his movies (well I had to do something whilst waiting for the tube delays to ease).

Singer, Spacey and Superman - three 'S''s I heart and so I was pleased to read this:
Am really curious to know whether Bryan will be involved in the story for the sequel - I hope so as I want him to continue where he left off with Superman Returns - and whom he will entrust to write the script.
Also, Kate Bosworth has her head screwed on fully to her shoulders. Thank god she (and Singer for that matter) realise you cannot please all of the fans all of the time and wants to return to the world of Superman:
Also, not Superman related but both Spacey and Bosworth are in the movie 21 which I shall be going to see when its released in the UK. I posted the trailer a while back. Does anyone know when Singer's next movie is out?
Question: I understand that Bryan Singer is about to meet with his writers to do a new draft of Superman?
Spacey: I hear that, that is exactly what's happening, and I would suspect that if the movie's going to go forward, and I don't know any more than you do, that it probably will be sometime in 2009.
Question: And you are quite keen to go back on board as Lex Luthor, aren't you?
Spacey: I'm signed to go back on board. [LAUGHTER] Yeah, no, my deal was a two-picture deal.
Question: Well, they'll sign your life away the way they do these big franchise movies.
Spacey: Yeah, but it was the first one I'd ever did, and, quite frankly, but I'd do it again, with Bryan Singer after 10 years, since Usual Suspects was a complete pleasure, and I loved it, and so I look forward to being able to get another crack at it.

Kevin and I both contracted to do another film. We heard from a journalist the other day that Brian Singer was had made a deal or is making a deal. I wish I could tell you more, but I don't. I'd love to do it. I enjoyed it so much, and I'd love to do another one." This despite gripes from fanboys that she was miscast in the role. "To be quite honest, I'm not really aware of that, so thanks a lot," she responds laughingly. "I feel fortunate to be cast, but you can't please everyone. One of the biggest things I've learned in this industry is that if you sit there and try desperately to please everything you're just going to run in circles and drive yourself mad. So I feel really fortunate to be cast by Bryan Singer and I'll tell you, not someone who is easily influenced. He's very meticulous, so if some of the bloggers don't think I was right for the choice but he did, then I'm fine with that. Look, you're going to get that with a film that's so iconic and everyone's going to have a really strong opinion about everything, so I understand it."

Well, since I last posted, I've seen the following:
Speed The Plow - Spacey back on stage @ The Old Vic = \O/ I swear this is one of the biggest bonus's of living in London. Every time I go, I'm never disappointed. Whilst my comments contain no spoilers for the plot to the play I'm putting it under a cut in case people reading would rather no nothing at all.
( Speed The Plow )
Watching Spacey on stage made me want to watch a Spacey DVD but I resisted and tonight I finally got round to watching the movie Little Miss Sunshine on DVD. Such a sweet movie about a dysfunctional family, made me laugh, made me smile, and non of it was sugar coated cr*p. Good stuff. :)
