Star Trek meetups and fandom

Kirk & Spock - Star Trek TOS
So the second London [info]ontd_startrek was awesome - look how many of us attended! \O/ woot! It was great to meet everyone even if I didn't get the chance to talk to all of you. I was glad to see those of you who attend the first one with me, came to this as well :D

There is another meetup planned for Saturday. I shall be there :)

Meetups aside, Star Trek TOS S1 is continuing to be awesome. Some of the later eps in S1 have some brilliant sci-fi stories. Myself and [info]missy_manic find ourselves wanting to get hold of WIlliam Shatner and Leonard Nimoy's other work. I really want to get a copy of Deathwatch starring Nimoy - because is this not the worst intriguing tagline you've ever heard of for a movie:

Homosexual outlaws on a rampage!
... WTF?! this is the tagline on IMDb I kid you not.

And fandom crossover squee means I must get a copy of Kid Monk Baroni as it stars Jack "Jimmy Olson" Larson (from 1950s Adventures of Superman playing the best friend of Leonard Nimoy. Look how young he is! awww....

Also Quinto Spock is making we want to watch Heroes S1 again which is great TV. It lost me in S2 though :(

Being Human

Being Human
EPIC CLIFFHANGER! - in tonight's Being Human. Can't believe it's the last episode next week. Nooo I want more!

Also, er on Thursday - the 'return' of Dr Greene - loved how they did with the link to Banfield. It was a pretty tough episode to watch but hey nothing new there and it beats most medical dramas hands down dealing with painful subjects. This one was no exception. Oh, and Romano - oh how I cheered at his mini-return - he's only on screen for a minute and managed to insult *grin*.

I see Heroes is back on BBC2 tomorrow. Can't decide if I should try to get back into it or not? Hiro and Sylar *are* great. We shall see...

Table Manners and more theatre

Jessica Hynes
Where did this week go? Went so fast!

Went to see Stephen Mangan of Green Wing, Amelia Bulimore of Big Train and Jessica Hynes of Spaced in The Norman Conquest's trilogy - Table Manners on Wednesday. I enjoyed it a lot. Funniest thing I've seen at the Old Vic since American Anthems. Ben Miles is also in it. I saw in perform before at the Old Vic in Richard III but it was great to see him play a funny role - he was brilliant at it. All the cast are. Am tempted to see the other two plays in the trilogy. Also, the stage has been completely transformed to be 'in the round' so the stage is in the middle and the audience are around in 360 degrees - that is just as impressive.

Heroes season 3 has started on BBC2 - yay! Sylar is sooo evil.

Thursday was Rach's bday and tomorrow we are going for a meal and to the theatre to see Waste at the Almeida.

Collectormania 13

Yellow, Superman Returns
Today was fun. Went to Collectormania in Milton Keynes. There I briefly met [info]hils and we wandered around the stalls together. Saw some great tshirts but didn't buy any. I did however buy, 'True Brit - Superman' graphic novel, sounds funny and [info]hils recommended it also :) I also bought a Hot Fuzz keyring and Ashes to Ashes coaster for [info]missy_manic and a Spaced one for myself. I didn't hang around too long as I was out for the day with my mum, and we went round the shops. Didn't see anything worth buying though :(

[info]hils- so cool to meet you, even if I couldn't stay too long. Enjoy the rest of your time there, meeting more people from your f-list :)

TV talk below, cut for minor spoiler.

Fandom's catch up

Yellow, Superman Returns
Well I finally ordered it. Whilst doing some xmas shopping online I went ahead and ordered the Hot Fuzz special edition DVD. I had to have it. [info]swankyfunk's posts on it were making me jealous. At the same time I ordered Christopher Reeve: Hope In Motion documentary because who knows who long it will take for it to get a region 2 release. It was lovely seeing Chris Reeve's children (heck they're adults now) help promote the DVD release over in the US. In other Superman related news, Pete Ross is returning to Smallville yay! I always liked his character. NOTE: Don't click the link if you are staying spoiler free!

Also, Simon Pegg won the 'Writers' Guild Ronnie Barker award' in the 2007 Comedy Awards - eeyyy! So Simon, still feel like your missing out? ;) Hot Fuzz is also nominated in the South Bank Show Awards 2008 - winners announced in January. Plus, this looks promising. Teaser trailer for How To Lose Friends & Alienate People (stolen from [info]ladytron70):

"What the hell are you wearing?!"
"Do you like it? I've got another one actually..."

*giggles*
Has anyone read the novel of the same name? Not sure whether to read it before the movie or if that will spoil it?

I meant to say in a previous post, the finale to Heroes (season 1) was great! Enjoyed it a lot. Hope the BBC picks up season 2 even if it has been criticised.
due South, Fraser
...about other fandoms.

Simon Pegg - I was not expecting this Pegg's Fatboy tops UK box office but it's great for all those involved in the movie :) Must've been the shorts ;) P.S. To the movie distributors - Please invest the profits into some nice extras for the DVD release.

Superman - so Smallville might not be my favourite Superman tv show but you gotta hand it to them for getting great guest stars. Looking forward to this one:

due South - recorded the Paul Gross movie Buried on Sunday - have managed to get half way through watching it, and will try to finish it! It's er, odd to say the least. Paul looks waaay to pretty, and young!

Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip - still loving this show, and Heroes though having to record both this week as am sooo tired and should get an early night.

Yellow, Superman Returns
So Smallville season 6 and Heroes has finally arrived to UK terrestial TV - hurrah!

I loved the Smallville ep Zod. The fangirl in me did a happy dance to the homages to Superman II throughout the ep. Rosenbaum as ever was brilliant as the bad guy, and I admit I did a little cheer when Welling's Clark crushed Zod's hand to get rid of him. Plus a nice little nod to my favourite Jimmy Olson, Michael Landes in L&C: TNAOS with the "Hey C.K." dialogue. :)

And Heroes. I can tell its gonna be addictive. I liked the first two episodes and want to watch more. I loved how the Japanese teleporter guy found his own story in a comic book in NYC. Nice sci-fi and comic book references throughout too :)

Catherine Tate as Dr. Who's companion in the next series! Didn't see that one coming! Pleased though as I'm a fan of both equally :) Saw Catherine Tate interviewing David Tennant for Radio earlier this year and they had a great rapport together :)

And yay for BBC2 listings! Heroes will be screening on BBC2 this summer - I want to see what all the fuss is about, and I'll get to see it with subititles :D

And Hyperdrive with Nick Frost and Kevin Eldon starts a second series on Thursday July 12th (according to Radio Times): http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/hyperdrive/
Not seen the first series, but sci-fi comedy sounds good. Now if only they'd repeat Red Dwarf (I know, I know the BBC are always repeating things ;)
