Just watched Take That - The Circus Tour on blu-ray.
It is amazing. Well worth blu-ray for crystal clear colours of stage, lighting, costumes, and the man band themselves. The helicopter shots are spectacular also.
Non-HD clip is crappy but it gives you an idea:
Also yesterday watch The Mighty Boosh Future Sailors Tour on DVD. Funny, I had forgotten about 'Batman Capes' and the Honey Monster. Still love Bob Fossils Dance Class and Crack Fox does 90s rave - terrifying and hilarious in equal measure.

thanks to all
londongqmfs who came to the blu-ray screening. Whether you came for the movie or came for the extra's or you lasted the full eight hours of all of it you rock! It was fun :) Lets do another one soon I hope. Given the hilarity of watching Star Trek TOS episode Spock's Brain in the interval maybe we should have a TOS screening some time.
Back to Star Trek XI though - the extras on the blu-ray are great. I think we all agreed we had no idea so many of the locations were real buildings as opposed to sets. Beer plant for the engine room for example. And the 'Vulcan' council building looks amazing. Want to visit it! I was hoping Shatner might actually be on the Shatner Conundrum feature but no :( My only gripe is that the writers did not explain the idea they did have for including ShatnerKirk. It wasn't used and it was probably the right decision but having read about it online I hoped that detail at least might be on the DVD to cover it has part of the films history just as the deleted scenes are for example. I cannot wait for the sequel - all the cast deserve to contribute some more to their individual roles.

Last weekend, went home to see the parents for first time in ages. It was nice and I made them watch my latest blu-ray buy - The Damned United with the amazing morph-like ability that is Michael Sheen. They liked it. Also watched again Recount. This is a great great movie - a favourite of mine of Kevin Spacey's in a while. The whole cast are great and there's a lot of big names in it. Watch this movie. It makes politics interesting and if you don't care about the issues in this movie, I don't think I want to know you. That is all.
Oh, except Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead are now available on blu-ray :D :D These will most likely be my next purchases. I feel there should be a blu-ray party for these. Will see how the Star Trek one goes next month... :)

Thanks all who responded to my original post. From now on all updates will be posted here. Please consider joining
londongqmfs where I will post notification of updates to this master post when needed (plus details of other meetups in London :D )

For those that do not know Wood Green is in zone 3. It can be reached on the Piccadilly Line or bus number 29 from central London, or Alexandra Palace Station is a 10 min walk/2 min bus ride away. If you are arriving by car, there are spaces to park but none are free - you will have to pay and it is probably pricey (I wouldn't know I don't drive). If you plan to drive here let me know and I can find out if need be.
Because I'm slightly anal and Spock-like I've put two start times for you all to decide when you want to arrive - you can of course attend both.
Note: Please arrive BEFORE the start times listed - myself and
missy_manic will be ready from 12pm onwards. If this sounds bossy I apologise but no one wants the door buzzer ringing when screening[s] has started right? And now that I've been bossy I gonna ask for your help! There will be some nibbles and drinks available but we would love it if you guys could help - bring food, drinks, anything to help make it a GQMF party atmosphere right? Got an idea? Share it in the comments! etc etc.
Have I missed anything out? Or if you have questions just ask.
UPDATE AS OF 14/11/09:
Is the attendance below correct? those that are TBC can you confirm?
ALL - If you have not received the address by end of Wednesday 18th November it is because you have not confirmed attendance. Check your LJ inbox for a PM otherwise :)
The following people have kindly volunteered to bring food and/or drink - if you know what you are bringing can you comment and I'll add the info - just thought it might help to see what the combo is like etc. If you know what you are bringing please comment so I can update. :) Yes you can bring booze if you want to drink it.
NOTE:: This is not aKobayashi Maru test that you will be held to account over with regards to comments you have made about bringing food or drink - obviously it will help for the party atmosphere and feeding of stomachs but if you can't contribute you can't and if you can - yay! Yes there are many takeaways nearby if people want to go with that option.
ms_treesap Updated 14//11/09 is bringing: Indian sweetmeats (sadly not homemade, there's a shop up the road), and/or juice. As well as some action figures :).
placebobitch Updated 17/11/09 is bringing: I'm going to make a cake of some sort and bring some snacks and WKDromulan ale :D
chuckney Updated 15/11/09 is bringing: still on for bringing some food, as well. :)
mwmm23 'I'll try to bring something too. :D'
infernalbad ' i'll bring a bunch of foodz too :)'
lady__ishtar Updated 15/11/09 is bringing: will hopefully be bringing some Trek-themed biscuits if I get some baking time this week.
sakuraso 'I shall try and help out with drinkage and foodage... '
audiograms Updated 15/11/09: I'll get a few platters and maybe an oven pizza or two. Definitely platters though.
soomka Updated 16/11/09 is bringing I'll pop in Sainsbury's on the way and buy some snacky type foods :)
Other ways to help with the party atmosphere - bring your Trek related gear and we'll fill the lounge with it for the afternoon - costume? action figures? etc
and on that note I shall simply say FIRE EVERYTHING!

Finally got round to watching 21 which I bought on blu-ray earlier this year. Quite enjoyed it, bit slow at times but enjoyable even if it was predictable. Nice ensemble cast. ( Don't read the cut if you want plot spoilers )
And of course the 11th Doctor revealed! Actor Matt Smith - so they actually have cast a relative unknown. I like this actually. I hate change, but its all part of the Who story so I say good luck to him.

Of course Who Fandom has been on fire - seems to be a very mixed reaction. This is my favourite. *giggle*

Yes so I was extremely geeky and tweeted whilst watching Superman: The Movie for the first time on blu-ray today. Well I started to, and then kept forgetting - too busy enjoying the film ;)
fangirlish conclusion: Christopher Reeve as Superman in Hi-Def = heaven.
Also, blu_ray started following me on twitter as I typed - that's spooky - are they filtering tweets containing the word? can you do that?

I watched Superman Returns for the first time on blu-ray today and OMG the details on the Superman costume are sooo much crisper. It looks great :D Especially the cape - much improved. And for those of you supporting the 'Bring Routh Back' campaign - buying Superman Returns on blu-ray if you haven't already is a sure way to get Warner Bros noticing - ultimately if you spend money on it, they'll pay attention. Movie making is a business after all.

Exciting for me this week is thatI got me a blu-ray player from work at less than half price. What they don't tell you is that to get the best quality out of it you need to buy a HDMI cable which isn't included. So halfway through installing the player I went out to the Sony Centre shop in Wood Green to buy said cable. This set me back £50 but I did have a great conversation from the purchase with the salesperson in the shop. As I was paying I spotted Thandie Newton and Dylan Moran on the big TV's in the shop showing Sky Box Office and before I could complete my own thoughts:
Salesperson: That's Run Fatboy Run, it's hilarious. Have you seen it?
Me: Oh yeah, I thought it was. Yeah I have.
Salesperson: It's great isn't it?
Me: Yeah it is. I always remember the scene with the blister.
Both of us: Urrghh! + laughter
Salesperson: Yeah Simon Pegg's in it. He's great.
Me: Yes! He is! He's got a new movie out actually.
Salesperson: Oh, the one I keep seeing advertised on the buses. How to Lose Friends & Alienate People?
Me: Yeah, that's it!
Salesperson: Must watch that. Enjoy your blu-ray.
Me: Me too. Thanks!
*grins* Pegg fans are everywhere. :)
For the record, the blu-ray player works a treat with my HDTV. And, the first blu-ray DVD purchase? Pixar's Animated Shorts :) And note to Working Title: Why isn't Hot Fuzz available on blu-ray? Me want it.
