Superman II
I forgot to post that the recording of QI that I went to on Saturday with Rach and my parents was a lot of fun. The guests were Bill Bailey (yay!), Rich Hall, Barry Humphries and of course Alan Davies. And wow Fry has lost a lot of weight - he looks great. The subject was gravity for the episode being filmed. And rather randomly the fangirl in me cheered at Stephen Fry when he made a reference to Superman II quoting Kneel Before Zod! and North Miss Teschmacher. North!. *grins* Is there anything Fry does not know?

...last night @ the Royal Albert Hall was awesome. Here's the intro by the brilliant orchestra and a classic theme:

My favourite moments? Cockney classical music, 70s Cop Show music, and the Universal theme played live by the orchestra, and then played in fast forward - which you can't do on a Universal distributor released DVD as Bill Bailey pointed out. Brilliant to hear live, and brilliantly funny in fast forward. News theme tunes played live was also a highlight. The man's a unique and brilliant comic :)

Bill Bailey

Saw Bill Bailey at a charity comedy gig last night = awesome. Kevin Eldon and Simon Amstell were originally listed for the event but weren't there sadly. But no matter because the other acts were great, and the finale of seeing Bill Bailey duet with Chrissie Hynde for "You were always on my mind" Elvis number, Brilliant.

Also have tickets for first ever Jimmy Carr gig in December. *very exciting* :D

P.S. Look who [info]missy_manic crossed paths with and managed not to fangirl (outwardly in their presence at least) last Friday. Sometimes London seems a small place!

I have tickets to a comedy charity gig with a line up that includes Bill Bailey and Kevin Eldon = awesome :D It's in May. Can't wait :D

Oh and I caved in and bought Hippies but glad I did. It's good! It's like the cast of Green Wing (ok, so just one) meets Smack The Pony and of course Mr. Simon Pegg. Kevin Eldon pops up in the first episode, and Peter Serafinowicz in the second - that was worth the price of the DVD alone to see him with Pegg again. Simon's character - Ray - is scared of him, and its very funny. Some great pratfalls from Pegg in all the episodes. Favourite line from Ray: At the risk of sounding arrogant. I am the most important person in the world.

So tonight I went with [info]missy_manic to see Bill Bailey perform stand up in some pre-arena gigs at the Riverside Studios in Hammersmith. Never been there before but really liked the venue and [info]missy_manic quickly realised it was where they filmed TFI Friday's back in the day.

Bill Bailey was superb. I laughed a lot. Some great jokes about Bush/Blair and Gordon Brown. And singing the theme tune to Friends in completley the wrong context was hilarious! As ever, his musical analysis and jokes on the keyboards were my favourite ones :) I'd love to go see him perform again some time.

Anyway, before setting off tonight to go to the gig I remember thinking about what tshirt to wear. And I decided to go with my Hot Fuzz 'This shirt just got real' tshirt because of the Bill Bailey connection. Well this turned out to be one of the best decisions I've ever made. Why? Because...

At the end of the show the audience were slowly moving out of the studio to leave. And whilst the crowds of people were slowly making their way through the bar towards the front exits I suddenly turned to [info]missy_manic and had the following calm conversation:

Me: Isn't that Quentin Tarantino by the merchandise stall?
Missy: Oh my god, yeah it is!

and then we both had the same thought. Quentin was recently on Jonathon Ross and in the green room with him was Edgar Wright. I knew this thanks to [info]justtracy posts about meeting them both at the BBC. So we looked again in Quentin's direction and stood beside him, dressed in his trademark colour black it could only be...(not calm whatsoever)

Me and Missy: Edgar Wright!!

By the time our brains functioned again at this sudden realisation both of them were making their way down the corridor. So I took a leaf out of [info]swankyfunk's book of seizing the moment before it was gone (am thinking of your Pegg @ NBC studios moment), and at Missy's encouragement practically sprinted down the corridor dodging the crowds trying to leave, swerved past the 7 foot tall Quentin Tarintino and:

Me: (tapped Edgar on the shoulder: Edgar!
Edgar: (turns round)
Me: (couldn't actually say anything due to shock/sprinting down the corridor) but :D grinned like a maniac and pointed at my Hot Fuzz tshirt (to anyone else in the corridor who may not have known who Edgar was it probably looked like I'd tapped him on the shoulder and pointed at my tits LOL!)
Edgar: Oh yeah!! I saw your tshirt earlier actually.
Me: :D
Edgar: (smiles) Nice to meet you. (puts out his hand)
Me: :D (shook his hand)

And with that both Edgar and Quentin were gone through a private side door. I felt bad for [info]missy_manic for not getting the chance to say hello but she was in hysterics at my sprinting down the corridor and then practically ignoring Quentin Tarintino whom was probably far more recognisable to most than Edgar. It was all over so quickly but I was soo chuffed and shaking afterwards! Probably more due to the fact that I hadn't expected that opportunity to arise at all and I had only a few seconds to act - massive adrenaline heachace afterwards! So glad I wore the HF tshirt. I'd love to have known when Edgar spotted it. I suspect it might have been at the bar during the interval. Thank god I didn't spot Edgar then because knowing he was there would've been far too distracting to the gig. There was actually a joke Bill Bailey told about jugglers that made me think of 'crusty jugglers' in HF too! LOL!

But hey, a great gig, and what a fab surprise/moment afterwards. Am still :D

Bill Bailey, Comics, DVDs

Yellow, Superman Returns
Currently watching Comics Britannia on BBC4. I remember buying a few issues of The Beano and Dandy as a kid but only because I couldn't find Superman LOL! They were always more comical than heroic. I gotta admit they didn't appeal half as much as the American superhero comics. That and Garfield of which I had hundreds of books of at one point. I prefered Garfield's sarcasm. Over the weekend I bought the latest Action Comics to continue following the Richard Donner written story. Bizarro Lois cracked me up!

Also, over the weekend - managed to get tickets to see Bill Bailey in some pre-arena tour dates \O/ can't wait for that. :D And bought We Know Where You Live on DVD. Comedy sketch show that I don't remember at all - apparently was on Channel 5 in the late 90s. Bought it because comedians include the fab Sanjeev Bhaskar and Simon Pegg. Haven't watched it all yet, but there's a hilarious repeating sketch involving doctors working in A&E who reel off medical terminolgy and mix it with random words that rhyme. Sounds silly but it's really funny!

Have now just started watching the second series of Life on Mars having finished the first. [info]missy_manic is off to see Elling again for the second time at the theatre tomorrow and we're gonna try and get John Simm's autograph at the stage door. Wish us luck!
